Colouring
with Crayons.
People have been colouring quilts & panels
for decades. It is a very simple yet very effective technique.
- For best results first iron your fabric
onto freezer paper, this stabilizes the fabric & prevents it from
stretching.
- Trace your design or use a pre-printed
panel.
- Colour your panel with crayons, practice
on some scrap fabric first so you get a feel for how hard you
need to press.
- When you have finished colouring, peel
off the freezer paper & place your fabric between two sheets of
baking paper & press with a dry, medium heat iron.
For special effects you can lay your fabric
over a textured surface before colouring to add a pattern, but don't
attach the freezer paper when doing these. Eg. a Lego base plate,
textured paper towel, bubble wrap. Experiment!
If tracing your own designs use a white on white fabric. When you
colour you have an instant pattern.
Note:
Always use light coloured fabrics, the colour of the crayons disappears
into dark fabrics.
